செயல்முறை மருத்துவம் என்றால் என்ன?

செயல்முறை மருத்துவம் ஒரு இணை மருத்துவத் துறை ஆகும். இத்துறையில் 'செயல்' என்பது நாம் அன்றாடம் செய்யும் அனைத்து செயல்களையும் (உதா: குளித்தல், உடை உடுத்துதல், அலுவல்/படிப்பு சார்ந்த செயல்கள், விளையாட்டு, பொழுதுபோக்குச் செயல்கள்) குறிக்கும். ஒரு நோயோ, குறைபாடோ, (அ) காயமோ ஒருவரின் அன்றாட செயல்களில் ஈடுபடும் திறனை பாதிக்கும்பொழுது, அந்நபரை அந்த பாதிப்பில் இருந்து (திறன்களை மேம்படுத்துவதன் மூலமாகவோ, மாற்று வழிமுறைகளை போதிப்பதன் மூலமாகவோ, மற்றும்/அல்லது சுற்றுப்புறத்தை மாற்றியமைப்பதன் மூலமாகவோ) விடுவிப்பதே செயல் முறை மருத்துவமாகும். செயல்முறை மருத்துவர்கள் பயன்படுத்தும் சில சிகிச்சை முறைகள்: சுய பராமரிப்பு சிகிச்சை (self-care training), அறிவுத்திறன்சார் பயிற்சி, உடற்பயிற்சி, குழு சிகிச்சை, கைத்திறன் சிகிச்சை (hand therapy), சுற்றுப்புறத்தை மாற்றியமைத்தல் (environmental modification), விளையாட்டு சிகிச்சை (play therapy), புலனுணர்வு-அசைவுத்திறன் சார் பயிற்சிகள் (sensorimotor activities), அணைவரிக்கட்டை (splinting) சிகிச்சை, மற்றும் தொழிற்பயிற்சி (vocational training). அனைத்து வயதினருக்கும் செயல்முறை மருத்துவ சிகிச்சை பயனளிக்கும்.

This definition was developed by Indian Occupational Therapists Think Tank (IOTT) as a resource for occupational therapy (OT) practitioners and students in Tamil Nadu. This definition may be used to explain OT to the Tamil speaking general public. It was drafted by a group of highly qualified and experienced occupational therapists originally graduated from India and are currently practicing/teaching/regulating OT either in India or abroad who are proficient in Tamil and English. Further, this definition was field tested through a survey that was sent to 51 Tamil speaking individuals who are not related to the field of healthcare. The age range of the sample spanned from 18 to 70 years. Of these 47 individuals either strongly agreed or agreed that the definition was clear, simple and easy to understand, and provides an idea of OT.  After the review and deliberation of comments made by survey respondents, the definition was officially adopted by the IOTT on April 12, 2020.
